Age

    How it is counted

    The year turns in April

The Khmer animal year begins at Khmer New Year in mid-April, not on 1 January, and not at Chinese New Year either. Someone born in February 1990 is ឆ្នាំម្សាញ់ (Snake), not Horse. Chinese-zodiac tables online get this wrong for anyone born in the first months of the year.

    Twelve animals, ten saks

The animal repeats every twelve years and the sak every ten, so a full name such as ឆ្នាំរោង ឆស័ក comes round once in sixty years. Both are counted from a documented anchor: 2024 was the year of the Dragon, sixth sak.

    Age the everyday way

Age is counted in whole years, then whole months, then the days left over — the way forms and schools count it. Someone born on 29 February has their birthday counted on 28 February in other years.

    Nothing leaves your device

A date of birth is personal, so it never leaves your browser — nothing is sent or saved. The address bar holds the date only so a link can bring the answer back; clear it before sharing if you would rather not.
