    Writing numbers in Khmer

    ម៉ឺន and សែន

Khmer has its own words for ten thousand (ម៉ឺន) and a hundred thousand (សែន). That is how prices are said at the market and the bank, and how older relatives count. Many younger speakers and schools count in thousands instead. The page gives the one you choose and shows the other underneath.

    No spaces inside a number

Khmer writes a number as one word: ១២៥ is មួយរយម្ភៃប្រាំ, not មួយរយ ម្ភៃ ប្រាំ. Money keeps a space only between the dollars and the cents: ដប់ពីរដុល្លារ ហាសិបសេន.

    The comma and the dot

In Khmer the decimal mark is a comma, read ក្បៀស, and thousands are grouped with a dot: ១.២៥០.០០០,៥០. The box accepts either style, and Khmer digits too.

    Nothing leaves your device

The words are worked out in your browser. Nothing you type is sent or saved. Read an amount over before it goes on a cheque or contract — this is a helper, not a signature.
